Welcome to the
Rural Municipality of Malpeque Bay
Our municipality encompasses the seven school districts of Baltic, Darnley, Sea View, Spring Valley, Indian River, Hamilton, and Malpeque. Situated along the picturesque shores of Malpeque Bay, our area is renowned for its stunning beaches, thriving industries, and diverse wildlife.
Our economy is built on farming, fishing, and tourism. Malpeque Bay is world-famous for its oysters, along with fresh lobster and mussels, all harvested sustainably. The area’s fertile lands support a strong agricultural industry, providing fresh, organic produce. Tourism flourishes with visitors drawn to our quality accommodations, scenic golf courses, and welcoming community.
Designated as a Wetland of International Importance, Malpeque Bay is a unique coastal lagoon system protected by a 25-kilometre sandspit and dune formation. It is a vital habitat for diverse wildlife, including the globally threatened Piping Plover, and serves as a key stopover for migratory geese and ducks. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy Cabot Beach Provincial Park, the largest park in western Prince Edward Island, offering supervised swimming, nature trails, and family-friendly activities. Malpeque Bay Kayak Tours provides guided paddling experiences, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the bay's serene beauty.
Our municipality is home to beautiful beaches, museums, campgrounds, churches, performance centres, and working wharves. There are various seasonal and year-round businesses, services, food vendors, and accommodations on offer. We take pride in our strong community spirit, with events and programs that celebrate our heritage and foster connections among residents and visitors alike.
